The Second Witnesses (Bright Year: Day 26)

“While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened” (Matt. 28:11).

The first witnesses to the resurrection? The women. The next witnesses? The guards. I find it a little unfair that unbelieving soldiers, perhaps the very ones who drove the nails through the hands of the Messiah, should be the ones sharing the news of His victory. Still, perhaps this is God’s sense of humor, letting the pagan tormentors bear witness to the unbelieving Sanhedrin.

Is He the King of the Jews? “You have said so” (Matt 27:11).
