Nailing the Cross (Bright Year: Day 21)

“But we had hoped He was the one to redeem Israel” (Luke 24:24). The Emmaus disciples don’t get it. They still have horrible scenes of their Messiah being condemned to torture and death. That can’t be what redemption looks like. But Jesus comes along and tells them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?" (Luke 24:25-26, ESV).

When did the disciples get to the point of saying, “Of course. Death on a cross!” Sometimes I wonder if I’m there yet.

Somehow the disciples got there. Their best biblical thoughts came together and were nailed down. Somehow that wicked wood took on a new light.
